Oinkari and Basque Events

7/5/2008 - 7/6/2008: Elko Festival
Elko Festival: Sat./Sun. July 5,6. An Oinkari bus will leave Boise at 7am (be there 6:30). We can stop at the corner of Airbase road/Elmcrest for Mt. Home People (IF REQUESTED). There will be a parade in Elko starting at 11 a.m. (Pacific time) and then performances at the Elko fairgrounds in the afternoon (Time TBD). There will be a dance Saturday night (Oinkari admission covered). Oinkari will be staying at the Stockmen’s Hotel (800 648 2345). Sunday will have a mass in the park (Oinkari attend in costume) along with BBQ lunch (free to dancers) and more performances and contests starting around noon. The Oinkari bus will depart when Oinkari competing in contests are finished. Expect to arrive in Boise after 10 pm.

7/20/2008: Gooding Basque Picnic
Gooding Basque Picnic: Sunday, July 20, 2008. We will be riding a bus to Gooding to perform shortly after noon. Lunch tickets will be provided to dancers. Be at the Basque Center (boise) by 9:30 to leave by 10:00 am. Gooding is providing lunch to the dancers at noon. Gooding little kids will perform, then Mt. Home then the Oinkari followed by contests and other events. If you are driving there arrive at the Gooding fairgrounds no later than 1 pm.

7/25/2008 - 7/27/2008: Boise San Ignacio Weekend
San Ignacio Weekend: July 25, 26, 27. Oinkari will be performing Saturday, July 26 around 2:30pm on the Basque Block (Dancers be at the Basque Center no later than 1:30 to prep). Oinkari have also been requested to attend Mass fully costumed at 7:00 pm in St. John’s. Onati dancers to perform. Oinkari will also be paid by Euzkaldunak to work the food/drink booths on the Basque Block as well as handle frequent emptying of the trash cans on the block during the weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun). Sign up sheets for shifts to be worked are available (anyone can help out…family, friends). Friday night: casual gathering on the block with various musical entertainment. Saturday: performances, weight carrying/lifting exhibitions, pala games (fronton) Mass and Street dance. Sunday: picnic in municipal park with games, street dance.

8/2/2008: Mt. Home Picnic
Mt. Home Basque Picnic: Saturday, August 2, 2008. Mt. Home Basque Park. Oinkariak will be headed to Mountain Home to help our neighbors celebrate. A bus will leave the Boise Basque Center at 6:15 pm (be there by 5:45 to load up) to arrive in Mt. Home by 7 pm. Oinkari perform at 8 pm in the fronton (be there by 7 if driving on your own). Our performance will be followed by a dance featuring Amuma Says No.. YES 6-29-08 Mt. Home has paid for a bus to haul Oinkari to town for a performance. PLEASE EMAIL PJ SO WE CAN KNOW WHAT DANCERS ARE GOING.

8/15/2008: GROUP 1: Winefest
WINEFEST, Basque Museum: Friday, August 15, 2008. on Basque Block. Be there at 6:30 to dance at 7 pm. Short perf. YES 6-29-08

9/14/2008: 1st New Kid Pracitce
September will begin the new year for Oinkari Basque Dancers and anyone interested in joining the group (if you are 14 by September 1) needs to come to the following practices: September 14 September 21 September 28 All practices will be at the Basque Center at 1PM. Wear comfortable clothes (no jeans) and bring your dance shoes. We will also have a New Kid/Parent Orientation October 5 at the Basque Center to familiarize all our new kids and their parents with the rest of the group.

9/21/2008: 2nd New Kid Practice

10/18/2008: Omenaldia Mass
Oinkari girls have traditionally performed San Juan for this mass dedicated to honor all those that have passed on before us. Usually at Sacred Heart Church. be there at 1:30 to dance around 2 pm, Dance San Juan. Cathy Clarkson will be playing txistu.

11/8/2008: Mortzilla Dinner/Bazaar (Cake Wheel)
2007 Oinkari New Kids to operate Cake Wheel during Bazzar event.

12/7/2008

12/20/2008: Boise Sheepherder's Ball
Oinkari Basque Dancers to perform with 1st performance for 2007 New Kids.
